  • Yango has added Kids Mode to Yasmina, its Arabic and English voice assistant, with all settings managed in the Yango app.
  • Parents can turn on plainer, softer replies, restrict some content, and review how long the speaker was used and what it played.
  • The update adds word-chain and guessing games, children’s songs, bedtime stories, remote reminders, and Safe Search for kids.
  • Yango says the feature is meant for children using the speaker with an adult supervising.

Yasmina “Kids Mode” is a new setting on Yango’s voice assistant, and it changes how the assistant behaves when a child is the one speaking. Parents switch it on in the Yango app. Once active, Yasmina replies in plainer wording with a softer tone meant for younger listeners. The assistant also blocks certain categories of content, so what plays through the speaker stays within the limits a parent has chosen. The change covers both how Yasmina talks and what it plays. The update is already live.

The mechanism has two parts. One is the response layer. Yasmina is a bilingual AI assistant built on a large language model, a type of AI system trained on text to generate replies, and “Kids Mode” instructs it to shape its wording for a child rather than an adult. The second part is the content filter, which narrows the audio the assistant will play. Neither requires a screen, since the speaker works entirely by voice. Together they make the Yango Yasmina speaker a more contained environment for a young user.

Reporting on Yango’s support documentation indicates the speaker can tell an adult voice from a child’s voice. It treats voices up to roughly 10 to 12 years old as children. The announcement does not say whether “Kids Mode” depends on this detection or runs independently of it.

What parents can see and control

Yasmina’s “Kids Mode” adds monitoring tools. Parents can check how long the device has been in use and see a list of the audio a child has played. This gives an adult a record of what the assistant did, instead of relying on a child’s account of it.

Smart speaker parental controls of this kind already exist on competing devices. Amazon’s Echo line pairs a child profile with a Parent Dashboard, and Google’s Nest speakers connect to a supervised account through Family Link. The Echo controls apply per device, while Google uses voice recognition to identify a child across every speaker in a home. Both companies also let parents block voice purchases, a control Yango’s release does not mention. Yango’s setup has elements of both approaches, since a parent sets the mode in the app and the speaker also listens for a child’s voice.

Remote reminders are also part of the update. A parent can schedule a reminder for a set time from the app, and the speaker delivers it to the child. Yango presents this as a way to structure a child’s day without the parent being in the room. All of these settings live in the Yango app, which is also where a parent turns the mode on or off.

Games, stories, and Safe Search in Yasmina “Kids Mode”

The play side of the update includes short reasoning games. Children can take part in word-chain and guessing games with the assistant by voice. “Kids Mode” also includes children’s songs, bedtime stories and nursery rhymes. These additions position the product as an AI assistant for kids instead of a general device with a child filter added on.

Safe Search for kids is the other new capability. The term refers to a filter applied to web lookups. When a child asks a question requiring one, Yasmina returns results filtered for a younger audience. Yango says the goal is to let children look up information while limiting what unsuitable material reaches them. The release does not detail how the filter decides which results to remove.

Yasmina runs on Yango’s speaker range, which includes the Lite, Mini, Midi and Max models. The Lite, sold in purple, pink, and green with a sheet of stickers, is already marketed to children. “Kids Mode” lives in the assistant software shared across those devices, so it is a setting, not a separate product.

The assistant speaks Arabic and English, including Arabic dialects. Usage data for the fourth quarter of 2025 showed 60 percent of daily users in the UAE mainly used Arabic with Yasmina, and a further 12 percent used both languages.

Yango states that Yasmina “Kids Mode” is intended for children using the speaker with an adult supervising. That wording places responsibility with the parent who enables the mode, and it frames the controls as a limit on the assistant rather than a substitute for oversight.
