Nintendo Switch 2 launch titles are making headlines with a surprising and nostalgic reboot—Survival Kids by Konami.
Set to launch June 5, the Nintendo Switch 2 will debut with 24 exciting titles. Among them, the classic Survival Kids returns with a modern twist. Originally released on the Game Boy Color in 1999, the game featured early survival mechanics that were revolutionary at the time. Players had to manage hunger, thirst, and fatigue while surviving on a deserted island.
Survival Kids is now back, and it’s better than ever. This time, players can explore the island with up to two friends in local co-op thanks to Nintendo’s new GameShare feature. Revealed during an interview with Game File, producer Andy Dennison confirmed the game supports up to three players locally—even across consoles. One player can host on a Switch 2 while the others join using their own Switch 1 consoles.
GameShare makes co-op easier than ever
The GameShare feature is a standout highlight of the Nintendo Switch 2 launch titles.
This innovation allows the game to be streamed from a Switch 2 to other nearby devices. Friends don’t need to own the game or even a Switch 2 to jump in. This local co-op option is perfect for shared adventures. Players can just open the menu, press a button, and join the session.
Nintendo continues to blur the lines between solo and shared gaming experiences. With Survival Kids, they’re making a strong case for couch co-op making a big return in 2025.

Originally, Survival Kids helped define survival gameplay on handhelds. The game featured item crafting, dynamic environments, and non-linear storytelling. It evolved into the Lost in Blue series on the Nintendo DS and Wii, gaining a small but loyal fanbase. Now, the upcoming reboot keeps those elements and updates them with smoother gameplay and modern graphics.
As part of the Nintendo Switch 2 launch titles, this game stands out for combining retro charm with forward-looking multiplayer innovations.
Nintendo Switch 2 is packed with heavy hitters
Besides Survival Kids, the Nintendo Switch 2 lineup includes 24 launch titles. These include Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition, Hogwarts Legacy, Fortnite, and The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. It’s one of the strongest day-one libraries ever seen for a Nintendo console.
Nintendo Switch Online also recently added the original Survival Kids for Game Boy. New players can experience the original game before jumping into the rebooted version.
